Apprentice Machinist (M-35), Shipfitter's Assistant Steel Production Facility (Small Component Shop) (X-11)

As part of Webb Institute's "Winter Work" internship program I worked in the apprentice machine shop where I learned how to operate drill presses and lathes as well as some miscellaneous hand tools.  I also worked in the Steel Production Facility, Small Component Shop, were we took pre-cut and formed pieces and the drawings and tack-welded them together so the welders could do the final welds without having to take the time to read the drawings and figure out how to put things together.  Overall it was a great experience and design-wise taught me that someone must assemble what was designed so pay attention to that aspect while designing.
